1. Which documents does a foreign citizen need for traveling to Italy?
Every foreign citizen who would like to visit Italy, must exhibit at the frontier the documents that demonstrate the motivations and duration of the stay in Italy, besides, in some cases, be able to prove the possession of enough economic resources and accommodation possibilities. In some particular cases they must have asked in their country of residence the Visa required according to their particular case. If you are Venezuelan and would like to visit Italy for tourism reasons, you do not need a visa if your stay is going to be shorter or up to a period of ninety (90) days. You only need a passport valid for at least six months after the departure date. Once in Italy, you must request in no longer than eight working days since your arrival, a “permesso di soggiorno” for tourism, by using the kit available at the post offices, “comuni” (Mayor’s offices) or “patronati” authorized for such purposes in the different cities of Italy. Foreigners must pay thirty Euro (€ 30). It is also possible to obtain an electronic permit of stay (permesso di soggiorno) instead of a physical one. Its cost is Euro 27.50 payable in the same offices by using the pre-printed receipt there. For further information see: www.portaleimmigrazione.it Besides this, you must provide information regarding the address of the hotel or residence where you will stay, present a document showing that you own medical insurance covering minimum expenses for Euro 30,000 and economic possibilities for living in Italy during your stay. 2. In order to enter Venezuela, besides the passport, is it necessary to have a visa?
To enter Venezuela it is necessary to have a passport valid for at least six months after the arrival day in the country. It is not necessary to have a visa for a maximum stay of ninety days for tourism purposes. It is advisable anyway to address to the Venezuelan diplomatic offices in Italy prior to departure.

4. What is the exchange rate Bolivars fuerte – Euros?
The official currency exchange rate is: 3,11 Bvs / 1 €.
Due to the fix Exchange rate in Venezuela, it is not possible in general to change Bolivars in Italy.

5. What is the official exchange rate Bolivars fuerte – Dollars?
The official currency exchange rate is: 2,15 Bvs / 1 USD.    

6. How much money is it possible to bring to Venezuela?
The maximum amount of cash that can be brought to or taken from Venezuela is 10,000 USA Dollars. Such limit does not suffer variations for youngsters under 18.

7. Is it necessary to be vaccinated before traveling to Italy?
It is not necessary to be vaccinated before traveling to Italy.

8. Is it necessary to be vaccinated before traveling to Venezuela?
It is not mandatory to get any particular vaccinations. It is advisable, though, to obtain the following: hepatitis B and and thyphus. For those who must visit rural areas in the states Apure, Amazonas, Barinas, Bolívar, Sucre, Táchira and Delta Amacuro, it is suggested to get the vaccines for yellow fever and malaria. During the rainy season, it is necessary take preventive measures from “Dengue”. The virus is transmitted by a mosquito, therefore, the use of insect repellent, insect screens, etc., is highly recommended.

9. What time is it in Italy?
The official time zone for Venezuela has 5 hours and 30 minutes less than the Italian one and 6 and 30 minutes when in Europe rules the legal time.

10. How can I call from Venezuela to Italy and vice versa?
In order to call from Venezuela to Italy, dial the international code (0039) followed by the number of the user (which must include the area code of the city with a zero). If you are calling a mobile phone, you must not dial the initial zero of the telephone company. For example, 0039-335-1111. In order to call from Italy to Venezuela, dial the international code 0058 followed by the area code or cellular code without the initial “0”. Then, dial the number of the person you wish to contact. For example, to call Caracas. Dial 0058 212 and then the person’s number. For Digitel, dial 0058 412, for Movilnet 0058 416 and 0058 414 for Movistar. 

11. Can I use Italian cellular phones in Venezuela?
The cellular telephonic net is active in the country and it is therefore possible to receive phone calls, send and receive short text messages according to the requests by any of the Italian mobile phone operators. It is advisable though, to contact your own customers’ service prior to departure.

13. Is it possible to watch Italian TV programs in Venezuela?
Watching the RAI International programs is possible through the main cable T.V. systems in Venezuela.

14. What is the voltage used in Italy?
The electrical flow in Italy works at 220 V. Appliances that work with 110 V need a transformer that can be found for sale in the Italian tool stores.

15. What is the weather like in Italy?
The weather in Italy varies according to the seasons, the zone and the height, being the North the coldest. In winter the temperature can descend below 0° C. In the South, the Winter is a little warmer. Summer is generally warm in the whole territory, with temperatures that are often higher than 30 °C in July and August.

16. What is the best time of the year to travel to Italy?
Spring, from March to May, and Fall, from September to November, if you want to enjoy excellent weather and particularly visit the cities of art.
Summer, especially from the last half of June until the first half of July and from the end of August until the first half of September. These are periods of little tourist affluence, indicated for those who would like to spend the vacation time in sea cities. Winter. Great time for those who would like to visit mountainous areas with the proper sports and activities of the season, but also to visit without queues the art cities.

17. What are the penalties established for drug possession and trafficking? Drug possession and trafficking are considered as crimes, with detention penalties that vary, according to the case, from two to twenty years. Even those who possess small quantities of such substances can be incriminated for international trafficking, given that the quote “modest quantities” of drug does not exist in the local juridical system. Therefore, once started a judiciary procedure, it is possible to be punished with highly severe detention penalties. 

18. What are the penalties established for sexual crimes or violence against underage individuals?
The penal code foresees that consummate sexual violence against 12-year olds must be punished with detention penalties from five to twelve years, while lascivious acts are punished with penalties from six months to five years. In any case, for consummated carnal or lascivious acts with individuals under 12 trough 16 years old, prison is foreseen for six months to three years. Violation to decency committed in a public place or open to the public carries detention penalties from three to fifteen months, while favoring prostitution is punished with detention from one to six years. Finally, it is to be reminded that those who commit crimes against underage individuals abroad (sexual abuse, exploitation, prostitution), will be prosecuted at entering Italy based on the current laws of our country.
