Cultural Cooperation

In the cultural area, bilateral relations between Italy and Denmark are characterised by a mutual cooperation regulated by the Cultural Agreement of 1956.

Denmark is particularly receptive to and interested in certain parts of Italian culture, such as design, cuisine, cinema, theatre and dance. There are fine possibilities of promoting Italian literature in a Danish translation, as long as it is backed by adequate contributions to the editors.

The association Società Dante Alighieri has two committees in Denmark, one in Copenhagen and one in Aarhus. A third committee is being formed in Odense. There are Italian language studies at three Danish universities: University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School and University of Aarhus. Two exchange lecturers sent out by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are teaching at the Universities of Copenhagen and Aarhus. Further, Italian is being taught at numerous gymnasiums and popular universities. The number of students studying Italian at a university level is around 600, while approx. 1000 student study Italian at a gymnasium level.
