Message from the Ambassador
The website of the Italian Embassy in Kampala intends to give its visitors a picture which is as much accurate as possible and punctual, not only of the socio-economic institutions and realities of Uganda but also, more in general, trade opportunities that are blossoming between the two Countries. Any suggestion directed to its improvement in various sectors is welcomed. I hope that, in this way, we could have at hand a more valid instrument for strengthening bilateral relations.
There is, however, one aspect which, unfortunately, this website cannot cover. It is the spirit of profound esteem and friendship, which the Italian Authorities and the people of Italy have towards Uganda. Sentiments that have been lasting for a long time and, which I believe have been fully reciprocated. Italy is present in Uganda also to contribute, with full respect to a well-proven partnership, to fight poverty. It is a real battle and our many cooperation interventions prove it. I refer, in particular, to Northern Uganda where, traditionally, our development aid programmes are being concentrated.
Another sector, which also cannot be recaptured on the website is that of the natural beauty of Uganda with its lakes, rivers, fauna and flora.
Visiting the national parks of the Country is a unique experience and unforgettable. I therefore invite my fellow citizens who will visit this website to consider a holiday in this hospitable and friendly Country.
I take this opportunity to remind you that in 2006 we shall be celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the historic Scientific Expedition on the Rwenzori Mountains by Luigi Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of Abruzzi who together with other ten climbers reached, for the first time, the 5,125 metres peak which, to-date, is still carrying the name Margherita in honour of the Italian Queen at that time.
See you then, not only on the website of the Italian Embassy in Kampala.
