Political Cooperation
Diplomatic relations between Uganda and Italy are very good. Meaningful to this regard is Uganda’s continuous support to the Italian candidatures to the International Organizations. In 2004, two Ugandan Army officers attended in Turin the ILO peacekeeping training course, financed by the Italian Government. In 2004, Ugandan Government Delegations participated in the World Women Parliamentarians Conference and in a Seminary on Local Government promoted by Toscana Region. In 2004, ties between the two countries have been strenghtened from the Italian part by the visit of the Italian Senate Delegation on Human Rights, led by Sen. Pianetta, and by a mission of Italian Entrepreneurs led by Hon. Michelini, Council of Ministers President Berlusconi’s Personal Representative for Africa.
At present, we are actively working with the relevant Ugandan Authorities, in order to organize the celebrations for the centenary of the Italian Expedition carried out in 1906 by Duke of Abruzzi, who, for the first time in history, climbed the peaks of the Rwenzori massif, the ‘Mountains of the Moon’, and gave Italian names to many peaks .Among them, there is the most famous and highest peak (5.100 meters): Margherita
