Italian Cultural Festival - Sardinian folk group “Citta’ di Oristano”

27/10/2007 - The folk group was founded in 1961. Since then it has contributed to the promotion of Sardinian culture and folklore and has obtained significant international awards such as the title of World Champions of Folklore in 1987.

The group dresses in traditional folk costumes dating from the beginning of the 19th century which have some similarity with the colours and allegorical symbols of traditional Spanish costumes (as Sardinia was ruled by the Spanish for a considerable time). Their clothes are typical of the handmade wedding costumes of country people.

The dances performed by “Citta’ di Oristano” group recall ancient rituals of shepherds and country people. The performances are accompanied using typical musical instruments such as the Luneddas (a very ancient instrument made of reed cane) and the Organetto (a type of small accordion).
