Italian Cultural Festival - Orizzonti / Skylines

27/10/2007 -

Exhibition of glass art pieces by Giuse Maggi

Born in Milan, Giuse Maggi currently lives and works in Bahrain. Her early experience in a ceramic and pottery studio led to formal training in the shapes and colors of artistic objects. Since 1990 she has been working with glass. Due to many years spent in the Gulf area, her work reflects her inspiration and fascination with the forms and colors of the Arab landscape and traditions.

In “Orizzonti – Skylines” the artist has produced a visual tension between the shape of the object and its tactile surface and luminous colors. Strips of glass are fused together to create a space rather than decorate it. The result is a combination of horizontal and vertical lines which clearly indicate landscapes, horizons, architecture, human activity and, ultimately, life. With this work, the artist wants to express the human need to have always a defined skyline because “… a space that has lost its horizons draws in on itself” - Gastone Bachelard, philosopher.

The exhibition will be on display at the Art Centre from Thursday 1st to Thursday 8th November 2007. Opening Times: 7.00-8.00pm on opening day, 8.00am-1.00pm & 4.00-8.00pm on other days, Fridays 4.00-8.00pm only
This event is free of charge and open to the general public.
