Message by the Italian Ambassador in Bahrain      

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Italian Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain. As a matter of fact, the two countries enjoy intense relations in economic, tourism, cultural and sports fields. Nevertheless more frequent official visits, new institutions and agreements are necessary to promote the cooperation in all fields.

The visits to the Kingdom of Bahrain by the Minister of International Trade and European Affairs, Hon. Emma Bonino, in October 2006, and the two visits of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Ugo Intini, in April and December 2007, have allowed the two countries to identify issues of mutual interest. Also, the signature of two important bilateral agreements on “The protection and promotion of investment” and “ The equality of treatment on anchorage and port taxes”, should give new impetus to the commercial.

A Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations, ready to be signed, and the forthcoming conclusion of an agreement on cultural, scientific and technological fields represent a step forward towards an adequate level of bilateral cooperation.

At multilateral level, Italy and Bahrain are collaborating very closely within many international organizations frequently supporting common stances and initiatives on important, international issues.

While the Kingdom of Bahrain has not yet established its own diplomatic office in Rome, this Embassy, which was opened in 2002 immediately after the important, constitutional reforms introduced in Bahrain by King Hamad , has not yet reached optimum conditions of services.

New efforts to promote social and cultural ties between the two countries together with a larger dissemination of the Italian language in Bahrain have been accomplished through the foundation of the “Italian Bahraini Friendship Association”, and the “Dante Alighieri Committee of Manama”, contributing to a better presentation of Italy in Bahrain.
