MANUFACTURING

Traditional manufacturing industries in Bahrain are:

• construction of dhow (lateen-rigged sailing vessels);
• fishery;
• pearl fishing;
• reed mats weaving.

Today the above mentioned activities are carried out on a small scale, but there are some other industries, such as:

• ship repairing;
• building material production;
• furniture;
• soft drinks production;
• plastic production;
• a wide range of consumer goods.

In 1986 an aluminium rolling mill (in addition to the Alba – Aluminium Bahrain – smelter) was opened to produce door and window frames.
