
TOURISM
The tourist sector is sustained particularly by the demand of the citizens of other Gulf countries (especially Saudi citizens) who are attracted by Bahrain’s more liberal society. In Bahrain there are six luxury hotels and there is a plan for the realization of a new hotel complex which will be located south-east of Manama. The construction of an artificial island (Lulu) off Manama shore; the project is the result of a joint venture between the Government and a local investor. Since 2004 (and for the following 5 years) Bahrain hosts, first amongst the Gulf countries, the Formula One Grand Prix, which will be in 2008 the opening race of the season. This sport event, together with the ever increasing number of fairs and conferences organised every year in Bahrain, gave a big boost to international tourism in the Country.
