Agreements

To date no political agreements have been signed by the two Governments.
However, two agreements have been finalized and a third one is under negotiation.    

AGREEMENTS IN FORCE

AGREEMENT ON THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF INVESTMENTS  
This Agreement was signed on the 29th October 2006 by Hon. Emma Bonino, Italian Minister for International Commerce and European Policies, and by Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, Minister for Finance of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Agreement was stipulated to facilitate and improve economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly with regards to investments of funds by investors of one of the two Countries in the territory of the other Country. The agreement has a duration of 10 years and it is automatically renewed for the same period if neither of the two contracting parties withdraws from it within the established agreed terms.

AGREEMENT ON EQUALITY OF TREATMENT ON ANCHORAGE AND PORT TAXES
This Agreement was signed on the 7th December 2006 by the Italian Ambassador Calogero Di Gesù and by Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, Minister for Finance of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Agreement establishes the equality of treatment of mercantile ships in matters relating to port and anchorage taxes. The agreement has a duration of 10 years and it is automatically renewed for the same period if neither of the two contracting parties withdraws from it within the established agreed terms.  

AGREEMENTS UNDER NEGOTIATION

CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC, TECHNOLOGICAL AND INFORMATION AGREEMENT
In 2006 negotiations were opened to draw up an agreement which regulates the collaboration of Bahrain and Italy in the fields of culture, education, science, technology and information. The purpose of the collaboration in the above mentioned sectors is to improve the reciprocal knowledge of the two Countries by building relationships based on mutual respect and common interest. Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain with Italian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Intini held talks concerning the start of the negotiations for this agreement. The Bahraini Ministry for Foreign Affairs is coordinating the relevant Bahraini departments as is the Italian ministry of Foreign Affairs with the equivalent Italian offices.
