
The Development Co-operation Office in Nairobi (Unita’ Tecnica Locale – UTL) oversees co-operation activities in Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan, three countries that distinguish themselves for their history, social and economic conditions and development prospects.
The Office was opened in 1997 and its main duties is to act as a link between the institutions the local reality and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to gain results from the strategy of Italian development c-operation in the areas concerned.
This Office deals with the local requirements to better understand the needs for co-operation and to asses local conditions, particularly those projects that can be newly financed or action those already started. The UTL, furthermore, maintains constant contact with the principal development co-operation partners, such as other donors, United Nations Agencies, World Bank and the European Union, by participating in meetings and taking part in the international community’s working groups.
