8^ Edition of the Italian Language Week in the World. Performance "La Festa dei Colori" by the group Abraxa Teatro (Nicosia, 18 October 2008)

Within the framework of the 8^ Edition of the Italian Language Week in the World, on October 18 the Embassy of Italy organized the performance “La Festa dei Colori”. As every year the Italian Language Week in the World is an event for the promotion of Italian language in the world, focusing on its historical, social and cultural aspects and that this year presents the theme “The Italian in the square”.   

“La Festa dei Colori” is an itinerant exhibition on stilts by the artists of the Abraxa Treatro group. The show started at the beginning of Ledra Street from where the group crossed the check point and continued the exhibition along the portion of Ledra Street in North Nicosia until Agia Sofia. Along the itinerary, the artists  interacted with the public, proposing comic sketches with accompanying music.  

The show intended to highlight the identity of the Italian language, establishing an artistic relation between the culture of street theatre and the poetic language, with specific references to thematic linked to the street and square culture. To this end, abstracts from compositions of famous Italian poets such as Cesare Pavese, Salvatore Quasimodo and Umberto Saba were performed.
