The Deputy Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Massimo D'Alema, sent the following message to Canada’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maxime Bernier, today:
“On the occasion of your appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Canada, I wish to send you my warmest congratulations and very best wishes for a fruitful and successful mandate. Italy sets great story by its friendship with Canada. This friendship has deep, strong roots, as testified to by our rich heritage of shared historic, civil and cultural values, and by the presence of a significant community of Italian origin in your country. I am therefore delighted that we will be able to work together to intensify the already excellent relations between our two countries and to further strengthen our transatlantic bonds. And finally, I hope that the common effort already being taken forward by Italy and Canada to promote a stronger multilateral framework that facilitates the search for more appropriate solutions to the main international challenges will continue.”
