RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT POLICY IN ITALY

To provide a detailed description of the Italian policy concerning the areas of the scientific research and technological development, two main documents must be taken into consideration. The first of these is the National Research Programme. It lasts for a three-year period and the programme currently in force concerns the 2005 – 2007 period. The second document instead is the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This represents the main research funding instrument of the European Union for the European area: approved by the great majority of the European Parliament last 15th June, this Programme places more enphasis than in the past on research as a relevant pillar, factor able to find the answers to the needs of European industries, to help competing at the international level and to develop a role of leadership in the international landscape.
