Scholarships offered by the Italian Government to foreign citizens and Italian nationals permanently living abroad  

Every year the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers scholarships for university and post-university studies to foreign or stateless citizens, and also to Italian nationals permanently living abroad.
The scholarships (according to the relevant Protocols) are available for:  
- university courses (if explicitly provided so by the Executive Protocol);
- post-university courses (specialization, master, research doctorate - medicine studies are excluded, see legislative decree 8/8/1991 n.257);
- single courses (monographic or generic); research (in every subject);
- Italian language and culture courses.

No scholarship can be granted for courses at foreign or private institutions not recognized by the State, even if located on the Italian territory.  

Particular attention will be paid to the following sectors: linguistic (Italian language courses), literary, artistic, scientific, managerial-economic, monuments’ restoration and reconstruction.
As far as the study of Italian language is concerned, the following institutions are recommended: besides the Università degli Studi, also Università per stranieri di Perugia, Università per stranieri di Siena and other institutions recognized by the State. The following institutions can be chosen for artistic studies: Accademie di Musica, Conservatori di musica, Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia, Accademie di Belle Arti, Istituti del Restauro, Accademie di Danza ed Arte Drammatica, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.  
For research purposes, it is possible to access universities, research centres, libraries, archives and museums.  

Presentation of application forms  

All information regarding Scholarships and application deadlines can be obtained directly through the Italian diplomatic and consular Representatives in the Country of origin of the candidate. Candidates will be selected by a joint committee (Italian members and members from the Country of the candidate).  

Necessary requisites
The candidate’s application will not be considered valid if it does not meet the following conditions:  
- knowledge of the Italian language (scholarships for language course are excluded); except for a few cases, no curricular courses in English are organised in Italian Universities. If the candidate doesn't have a good level of knowledge of Italian, the application form will be considered valid only if related to free researches (the application must be accompanied by the letter of a professor available to follow the student in another language), if the student will follow an Italian language course before the scholarships in order to achieve a sufficient level, or in particular cases (for ex. Politecnico di Torino, Master in Tecnologia) if the course is available in English.  

- Educational qualification; To be enrolled to the course, the applicant has to submit a secondary-school diploma, translated into Italian and certified by the Italian Embassy. To access post-graduation and specialization courses, the applicant has to submit a graduation certificate issued from the foreign university, which must be correspondent to the Italian degree, and other specific documents. To access single courses, it is generally needed an enrolment certificate issued by the foreign university with an attached translation in Italian. Only the Università per Stranieri di Perugia admits students with no degree, but it doesn't issue any final certificate.  

- Age limits: every specific age limits are indicated in the relevant executive Programs of Cultural Agreements. If not specified, the age limit is 38 years.   ù

ENROLMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS INTO THE CHOSEN INSTITUTIONS   The enrolment procedure is carried out by the beneficiary after the arrival in Italy. Knowledge of Italian language is normally requested to be enrolled to the university courses.
