The Embassy has been involved in the last years in the realization of many international cinematographic festivals, as And The Word Became Film, Arsenals  (http://www.arsenals.lv) and Baltic Pearl (http://www.balticpearl.lv). The contribution helps to spread the knowledge of Italian cinema and it is moreover very important in a Country such as Latvia, where Italian films are not released.

A periodic film screening dedicated to Italian directors is organized at the Italian Language Tutorship (see section "Tutorship").

Cinema Festival Baltic Pearl (September 1st-12th, 2006) During the 2005 edition, two sections of the program were respectively devoted to Visconti's works and the Italian Neorealismo. The festival (which includes many sections and also a competitive one for the best works) takes place every year since 1995 and can boast guest personalities as Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon, Gina Lollobrigida and Catherine Deneuve.
The most interesting sections are dedicated to the screening of films coming from prestigious international Festival as Cannes, Venice and Berlin. Moreover, every edition hosts a retrospective of the Russian cinema and two more thematic sections.
The 2006 edition, during which works by Antonioni and Pasolini were shown, has been co-sponsored the Embassy. The organizing institution is the Baltic Pearl association (http://www.balticpearl.lv).

And the word became film
The 2006 edition took place from April 16th to April 21st: the non-competitive show takes place every year since 1999.
During the first edition many films were presented, as "Francesco giullare di Dio" by Rossellini, "Il Vangelo secondo Matteo" by Pasolini and "La strada" by Fellini.
The organizing institutions are the organization: "Latvian Lutheran Hour" ("http://www.stunda.lv) and the Latvian section of the international cinema association"Interfilm" (www.interfilm.org).  
In the 2005 edition films as "L'ora di religione" by Marco Bellocchio and "Hijos" by Marco Bechis were included. In 2006 the Embassy helped realize the Festival providing "Il miracolo" by Edoardo Winspeare and "L'uomo in più" by Paolo Sorrentino. In 2007 the Embassy contributed the films "Il Mio viaggio in Italia" by Martin Scorsese and "Mi piace lavorare" by Francesca Comencini.
