The total exchange between Yemen and Italy
was 107,5 million euro in 2004. The exports of Italy to Yemen - on average
79 million euro per year in 1993-1997 -, boomed in 1997-1998,
with an average of 140 mln. of euro, then decreased to 100 mln. of euro in
2000-2002 and to 87 mln. of euro in 2003.
The decrease, especially in the sectors of cereals and cereal products,
machinery for general use and for specialized industries, is also due
to the the aggressive activity of other partners (especially
China). There is not a responsible ICE Office for Yemen, nor a Yemeni-Italian Chamber of Commerce on the spot.
The value of the re-exportsof some important Italian companies from the United Arab Emirates towards
Yemen shall also be considered . In
absence of complete statistical data, the trade position of
Italy seems anyway to be stable
In 2004 Italian export increased by 8%. The total of the Italian export Italian in 2004 was
94 mln. of euro. The Italian exports are composed for 50% of machinery,
household electric appliances and vehicles, for 12% of food products and
approximately 10% of chemicals
The trade balance is in
favor of Italy ( 80 mln.euro in 2004). The Italian imports from Yemen are
approximately 14 million euro, in prevalence ovine meats and skins.
There are no Italian investments in Yemen.
Export insurance is granted from SACE.
SACE promoted the Yemen from the 7^ to
6^ category of risk in 2001 . In December 2003 the total
exposure SACE in Yemen was 8,70 million euro.
