The Science and Technology Office is the official channel of communication between the Italian and Korean Governments on scientific and technological matter. It operates since 1993 as part of the Italian Network of Science Attachè Offices, in order to promote the scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Italy and the Republic of Korea by favouring the sharing of views and information and the promotion of science and technology links.
The Scientific and Technological Office therefore operates to:
- Provide strategic information to public or private organizations, both Italian and Korean, on scientific-technological research administration (Research Centres, Universities, Ministries, Boards, Councils, Companies), innovation policy and capabilities in both Countries, as well as, to Italian Companies, together with Embassy’s Commercial team, on R&D business development and technological results transfer to industry;
- Detect and monitor the development and orientation of Science and Technology in Korea, taking also into highest account the latest industrial trends and results;
- Identify areas of possible joint interest and promote the cooperation among Research institutions, Universities and high-tech industries;
- Support and check the progress of the joint research programmes approved by the executive programs launched by the latest “Protocol for the Scientific and Technological Cooperation” jointly defined and renewed by Italy and Korea;
- Organize seminars, events and conferences on topics having relevance and interest for both Countries;
- Assist Italian researchers/scientists/delegations visiting Korea and vice versa.
Aimed to make Italy and Korea more aware of each other’s strength and capability in S&T, the Science and Technology Office every year collects the proposals of events and seminars of the Italian and Korean Science community, and forwards requests of financial assistance for the organization of the most significant ones to the “Cultural Promotion and Cooperation” Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Ing. Antonino TATA (Curriculum Vitae) has been appointed since 2005 as Science and Technology Attache' to Seoul Italian Embassy.
