
ITALY-KOREA S&T COOPERATION |
The basic on-going I-K cooperation has been established on last December 2006, with the signature of the “8th Executive Protocol of I-K scientific and technological cooperation (2007-2009)”(http://www. esteri.it/MAE/doc/PESTKOREA_2007-2009.rtf), aimed to strengthen the cooperation between the two Countries.
Moreover, on February 2007 Italian and Korean Governments signed in Italy an important agreement in the field of S&T: "The Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of Republic of Korea on cooperation in the field of Science and technology".
The 8th Protocol includes 16 Projects related to basic research and technological innovation in several areas:

- Design, realization and characterization of Raman and Brillouin based distributed fiber optic temperature sensors (SSSA-Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, University of Pisa / SNU- Seoul National University)
- Design and implementation of a 2.5 Tbit/sec Optical Time Division Multiplexing (OTDM) system (SSSA-Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, University of Pisa / KIST-Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Seoul)
- Special optical fibers devices for photonics applications in communication and sensing (University of Padova / Yonsei University)
- INFINITY: INteroperable wi-FI/wimax CoNnectiviTY (University of Palermo / SNU- Seoul National University)
- Novel Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) materials for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) (University of Pisa / Hannam University, Daejeon)
- Mechanism of reaction between transparent dielectric and Ag electrode in plasma display panel using microwave heating (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia / Inha University, Incheon)
- Integrated analysis of geophysical data to characterise the gas hydrate reservoir offshore South Shetland Margin (National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geo physics, Trieste / KOPRI- Korea Polar Research Institute, Ansan)
- Climate change and its impact on land surface processes and vegetations at regional scale (University of Turin / Ewha Womans University)
- Membrane and membranes processes in CO2 separation for a clean environment energy saving (CNR- Membranes Technology Institute / Gyeongsan National University)

- Joint Laboratory on Biorobotics systems to improve quality of life (SSSA-Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, University of Pisa / KIST-Korea Institute of Science and Technology)
- Natural peptides and synthetic analogs as novel antibiotic drugs (University of Rome-Tor Vergata / Research Center for Proteineous Materials, Chosun University, Gwangju)
- Plant biotechnologies for the production of vaccines and biomolecules (ENEA, Rome / Jeonju Biomaterial Institute, Chonju)
- Mechano-active tissue engineering of tendon and heart valves (CNR-Institute for Composite and Biomedical Materials / GIST-Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology)
- Novel method for top-down analysis of macromolecular and nanosized samples of biotechnological and environmental interest (University of Bologna / Yonsei University, Seoul)
